Worship Greeter: 9 and 11:15 am and 7:30 pm
Greeters are our first point of welcome for worshipers as they enter the Sanctuary through the Narthex for services. A warm smile and friendly handshake are all it takes to participate in this ministry. Additional responsibilities include handing out orders of worship, answering questions about children in worship, childcare in one of our two nurseries, as well as logistical questions about our buildings.
Ushers help receive the Offering at each of our worship services. Greeters are often tapped by our Head Usher to assist with the Offering.
Sing in the Choir
Dr. Henderson, our Director of Music, is always interested in meeting with those who may wish to sing in one of our choirs. Typically, he will schedule a time to talk with you to learn about your musical background and discuss ways for you to find your way into the church’s choral music program. Our choirs rehearse on Thursday evenings. During the summer months, rehearsal is held on Sunday mornings because the repertoire is less demanding and, therefore, requires less rehearsal time. This is an excellent time to explore our music ministry. More information.
Several times a year, and especially during the summer months, members of the congregation are asked to lead in worship by reading scripture lessons. One of the pastors meets with those interested in this ministry to review some fundamental skills and techniques that enhance the public reading of scripture.
Assist with Serving Communion
Although this is generally a ministry of the Elders and Deacons of the congregation, there are occasions when additional servers are needed. Active members of the congregation may be invited to assist in serving the Lord’s Supper.
The Communion elements (bread, wine and juice) are prepared each Sunday for the 11:15 am service by a member of the congregation. This ministry entails resetting the Communion table following the 9 am service, serving Communion to those who wish to remain in the pews, removing and storing unused elements, and cleaning and putting away chalices, plates and linens. After a training and orientation session with a member of the Worship Committee, those who help with Communion are usually scheduled no more than once every six to eight weeks.
Worship and Music Committee
This standing committee of Session, meeting bi-monthly from September through June, assists and consults with the Pastor and the Director and Associate Director of Music with various aspects and logistics related to our worship and music programs.
