A book of their own, a special goodie, a bandana - something small made or bought that adds to the limited joys of these wonderful boys and girls. Rock Babies and play with toddlers on Sunday mornings. Our youngest members need care for the periods of 8:45am to 10:00am , 10:00am to 11:00am , and 11:00am to 12:30pm . Commitment: Monthly for a time slot and term to be agreed. This is a family friendly opportunity for those with school age children and above. Be a librarian in MAPC's Children's Library.
The children's library needs volunteers to help out after services during the school year. The library is where kids enjoy a time of fellowship and can pick up a good read for the week.
Commitment: Sundays, 10:45-11:15 am or 12:30-1:15 pm, for date(s) to be agreed . Summer opportunities also available. Familiarity with children's literature is a plus. This is a family-friendly opportunity. Be part of Angel Tree at Christmas.
There are a number of opportunities available to help make Christmas special for children who have a parent in prison. There is a job to fit every skill and schedule. An ability to speak Spanish is a plus, but certainly not expected. This is a family-friendly opportunity.
Make calls inviting the children and their guardians to the Christmas party and inquire about childrens' gift wishes and sizes.
Commitment: Several hours for calls throughout October, November and early December.

There are a number of members who would like to attend worship (and church functions) but have difficulty commuting. Provide a strong arm, a willingness to share a bus or taxi or assistance with a wheelchair.

Assist members in need when your schedule allows.
Serve as an "on-call" volunteer who MAPC deacons and pastors can contact when they need a helping hand to run an errand for a homebound member, accompany someone to a doctor's appointment and offer support where needed.
Commitment: At your convenience (e.g., weekday mornings, weekends only, etc.) Must be at least 16 years or older and know your way around Manhattan .
Serve lunch to senior citizens.
Join a team to serve lunch and offer fellowship to senior citizens by setting up and serving lunch, and then cleaning up.
Commitment: Once a month on Sundays, 1-3:30 pm, for term to be agreed. This is a family-friendly opportunity.
Share a skill or interest with seniors . Offer musical entertainment, share your knowledge of indoor gardening, teach a simple craft.. •Service to the hungry and homeless Set-up and serve at MAPC's Monday or Friday night Homeless Shelter.
Welcome 12 carefully screened homeless men to the overnight shelter in MAPC's Parish Hall. Prepare and serve snacks, assist with setting up beds.
Commitment: Once a month on Mondays, 6-8 pm, for a term to be agreed. This is a family friendly opportunity for those with children in primary school or above.
Spend the night as a host at MAPC's Monday or Friday night Homeless Shelter .
Act as an overnight host(ess) to a group of carefully screened homeless men. Lights go out at 10 pm and back on at 6 am. Set out a light breakfast and clean up in the morning. Volunteers serve in pairs.
Commitment: Once a month on Monday or Friday, 7 pm to 7:15 am the next day. Term to be agreed.
Serve at MAPC's Thursday night Shelter Dinner .
Set up and serve dinner to a group of carefully scr eened indigent New Yorkers, and then clean up the serving dishes and trays. Become part of a regular team.
Commitment: Once a month, Thursdays, 5:30-8 pm, for term to be agreed. This is a family-friendly opportunity.
Provide a Seasonal Treat for Participants in one of MAPC's programs for the hungry or homeless
Create or purchase a small treat for the participants in one of these programs: e.g., Christmas cookies, Valentine's Day Cards, simple clothing like socks, toilet articles. or provide an appropriate video to watch. You decide which holiday(s) and which program(s) in concert with the Director of Outreach Ministries. Commitment: up to you, but must include all participants in the program chosen. An opportunity for families and groups of friends to help others together. Participate in a Habitat for Humanity weekend "build" with others from MAPC. A group from MAPC does this several times a year. Commitment: typically for one day of work, but you will be contacted prior to a project with specifics.. Family friendly for those with children 8 th grade or older.
•Service through music Share your instrumental skills. Those who play musical instruments are encouraged to check this service opportunity. John Weaver is looking to create ensemble and solo performance opportunities in service to the church. John will contact you to discuss your interests and availability. Commitment: varies.

Following an "audition" with John Weaver, Director of Music, you can join MAPC's choir and be part of musical/liturgical leadership at the 11:15 am worship service.
Commitment: Rehearse each Thursday from 7-8 pm and Sunday from 10-10:30 am; participate September through mid-June. Provide music for MAPC classes and programs.
Share your musical gift at a children's Sunday school class, a Seniors' Ministries meeting or one of our meal programs.

Share your musical talent by joining the St. Andrew Chorale and present three concerts each year on Sunday afternoons, one each in November, March and May.

Greet worshippers as they enter the sanctuary for the 9 or 11:15 am service, help with the offering and provide general assistance on Sunday mornings.
Commitment: One Sunday a month or "as-needed" for a term to be agreed . A brief training session will be provided. This is a family-friendly opportunity.
Serve at Coffee Hour.
Set up and serve beverages and pass cake or cookies at the hospitality hour after the 11:15 am worship service and then tidy up. Greet and start a conversation with newcomers and reinvigorate your contact with other members of the congregation.
Commitment: Once a month on Sundays, 12:30-1:10 pm, for a term to be agreed. Men and women--all ages--and families are welcome!

Increase awareness of MAPC Christian Education and other programs by calling five people over the course of the year to encourage them to attend a special event. A committee member will provide details to you.
Commitment: Several hours; place an invitation call two weeks prior to an event and again two to three days before the event. Must be fourteen years or older.
Invite friends to Christian Education classes.
As members we are expected to invite at least two friends to church each year. Expand on that and invite three families to attend MAPC's Sunday School before the beginning of Lent 2004.
Commitment: A few minutes to extend an invitation. This is a family-friendly opportunity.
Act as a greeter in the Church House lobby before Christian Education classes.
Greet people in the lobby as they arrive for the Christian Education hour, help them find their way and answer questions about the classes and the church.

Do you have an unpredictable schedule, but want to help in some way? Put your name on the list of those willing to be called to fill in for regular volunteers. All of MAPC's Outreach programs listed here have times when someone ill or otherwise unable to participate at their normal time. If you are available, it would be wonderful for all concerned.

Assist in preparing the elements (bread and wine/juice) before the service and cleaning up afterward. Opportunities are available for both Sunday services and at some special services. Commitment: Once a month on Sundays for a term to be agreed; arrive 30 minutes before the service and expect to stay 30 minutes after.
Prepare new library books for circulation.
Be the first to see the new additions to our library as you prepare them for circulation by typing index cards and book pockets. Commitment: Two hours each month, which can be done in your home or at MAPC. Term to be agreed Must be able to type accurately. Training will be provided.
Help with the Annual Stewardship Campaign.
Assist other members in finding ways to express their gratitude to God by personally calling four to six members during October and November to encourage annual giving. Follow up with personal thank you notes to those who give. Commitment: An hour or so per call in the fall, plus a one-time, 45-minute orientation session.
Make phone calls to MAPC committees to gather new/seasonal service opportunities.
Work with representatives from Session to gather descriptions of opportunities that are available and pass that information along to a designated coordinator. Commitment: Several hours at the beginning of each quarter.

Act as a liaison for MAPC with another NYC organization to develop new service opportunities for members and friends. Commitment: Plan and coordinate with community partner. Your commitment will depend on nature of project. Take photographs of various MAPC ministries and activities to use in our publications.
Serve as a "freelance" photographer, attending and photographing various functions in the life of the church as you are able, so that we can build up a portfolio that will help us interpret the various ministries of the church through brochures, the website, etc.
