Narrative Questions

1. Describe your sense of call to pastoral ministry. *

2. Describe your vision and understanding of the global church, including your sense of the opportunities and challenges for believing in and practicing a global ecclesiology. *

3. Why are you applying for The Phillips Talbot Global Ministry Fellowship and, if you receive it, what do you expect from it? *

4. What experience do you have with living in or visiting the Global South? With cross-cultural experiences in general? *

5. Do you have any allergies or other medical conditions, situations, or concerns? Do you have any dietary limitations, whether ethical, medical, or personal taste? *

6. What questions do you have about the Fellowship itself, the site assignment, or Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church? *

7. Is there anything outstanding that may prevent you from being certified for a call to ministry by May 31, 2011? *

1 Letters of reference should explain how long the author has known the candidate, the author's general opinions/impressions of the candidate's strengths as a local church pastor, and the author's opinions/impressions of why the candidate is particularly well-suited to the Global Ministry Fellowship. With the exception of the letter from the seminary/divinity school dean (who has already received a letter of explanation), the applicant is responsible for communicating the purpose and nature of the Global Ministry Fellowship to the persons in question.

2 The CPM chair's letter should also confirm the applicant's status as a Candidate for the Ministry of Word and Sacrament who is certified ready to receive a call (or who will be so, if the way be clear, by no later than July 1, 2011). The CPM chair will also indicate that s/he is prepared to commend the Global Ministry Fellowship as a validated ministry to which the applicant can be ordained, while recognizing that this is ultimately a question for the COM of the Presbytery of New York City, where the successful applicant will be accepted as a member.
