If you have interest or questions regarding any of our groups, including a group’s schedule of meetings, or you would like to receive e-mail notices about a group’s gatherings, please contact Associate Pastor Beverly Bartlett, 212-288-8920 x247, or via e-mail at bab@mapc.com.
The 20s/30s Group welcomes all young adults, singles, couples and young families, to our programs and activities. Activities have included bowling nights, game nights, Sunday brunches, and the ever-popular annual Super Bowl party.
Check out our blog and calendar at mapc20s30s.blogspot.com to find out information on upcoming events. You can also reach Megan regarding the 20s/30s Group via e-mail at mapc.20s30s@gmail.com.
Our Mid-Timers’ events are for those who feel they have moved beyond the 20s/30s group but are not yet ready for Seniors Unlimited–and often you’ll find those who fit both of those categories at Mid-Timers events. You decide whether you are a Mid-Timer or not!
Mid-Timers’ gatherings take place every couple of months and usually involve a night out of some sort–perhaps a guided tour at a museum followed by dinner at a nearby restaurant, our very popular wine and food-pairing evenings at the Manse, or a summer’s evening at a concert in the park. These events are announced in the weekly Pastors’ Letter e-mail and in the Sunday morning bulletins.
Our Mothers of Young Children group meets weekly on Thursdays in the Phillips Lounge during the program year. Coffee and tea are available beginning at 9 am, and the meeting is from 9:30 to 10:30 am. We are currently using Kathleen Bostrom’s book, Finding Calm in the Chaos, as the springboard for our conversation. Copies of the book are available for purchase at the meeting. Bostrom provides a short scripture passage for reflection each week and brief daily readings. Being very busy mothers, the “homework” is a kept to bare-minimum!! The group provides a haven of support and fellowship for mothers who are able to participate in a weekday gathering.
The Parents Prayer Group-for those concerned with teens and young adults–meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month from 8 to 8:30 am during the program year. New members are always welcome. This group has proven to be an important source of support for those who are parenting children through these challenging stages of life.
We have a growing population of Families with Young Children at MAPC! Families gather monthly on a Saturday morning from 10 am to noon, either on the Roof Garden or in the Parish Hall (depending on the weather) for conversation and play. This is a wonderful opportunity to get to know other families in the church. When there is a holiday coming up, such as Halloween, Christmas or Valentine’s Day, we usually have a special activity and treats to mark the occasion.
The Families with Young Children gatherings are on the second Saturday of the month, September through June, unless that falls on a holiday weekend. Families with children ages 5 and under are invited–and older siblings are welcome! There is always coffee, tea, juice, bagels and fruit for a light breakfast.
Our Seniors Unlimited ministry offers monthly gatherings for older adults in the MAPC community and beyond. The Seniors Unlimited programs are usually held on the second Monday of the month, beginning at 3 pm, September through June. Last year’s program topics included a presentation on Islamic Art with a follow-up tour at the Metropolitan Museum of Art; a bus trip to Philipsburg Manor and Kykuit; two lectures through the New York Council on the Humanities: “Campaign Songs of the 19th Century”, and G.B Shaw and “My Fair Lady”; a workshop and slide presentation on the art of paper cutting; a look back at what it was like to grow up in a Japanese internment camp during WWII; tales of a year spent in Zambia told by MAPC’s Global Ministry Fellow; a lecture on the special relationship between England, the U.S. and their leaders; and a tour and afternoon tea at the Mount Vernon Hotel Museum. As you can see, we offer a wide variety of programs and experiences! Check the weekly Pastors’ Letter e-mail for information on upcoming gatherings.
Every couple of months families gather in the Parish Hall for dinner and a movie on Church Family Nights. This is an informal opportunity to get to know other families within the church community and a relaxed way to spend a Friday evening after a hectic week. Dinner fare appeals to both young and mature palettes and grownups can enjoy conversation while the children watch a show, play board games or engage in other activities. Those without children at home are welcome–but need to be comfortable with joyful chaos and squeals of glee for most of the evening! You can find information on upcoming gatherings in the weekly Pastors’ Letter e-mail.
