Mid-Winter Piano Series at MAPC

On Sundays during the month of January the Saint Andrew Music Society’s weekly concert series will present four renowned pianists performing fascinating programs.

All programs begin at 3 pm in the MAPC Sanctuary.

 

Sunday, January 6 – Henry Wong Doe

Henry Wong Doe

“Pianism in a whole different league, namely: art.” These words from Tel Aviv’s Ha’aretz aptly describe Henry Wong Doe’s sincerity and passion for music. Indeed, having won “Audience Favorite” prizes at both the Rubinstein and Busoni International Piano Competitions, Mr. Wong Doe continues to enthrall audiences around the world with his uniquely captivating style. Performances have taken him to major venues including the Joyce Theater in New York, Sydney Opera House in Australia and the Mann Auditorium in Tel Aviv, Israel. He will perform Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 22 in F, Op. 54, Chopin’s Piano Sonata No. 3 in B Minor and Barcarolle in F-sharp Major, as well as works by Olivier Messiaen and Henri Dutilleux.



 

Arielle LevioffJanuary 13 – Arielle Levioff

Arielle Levioff is a noted soloist and collaborative artist in the New York City area, nationally and abroad. In New York City she has appeared as a soloist at Bargemusic, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, Merkin Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and in the “Meet the Virtuoso” series at the 92nd Street Y. She is a specialist in the French repertoire of the 19th and early 20th centuries, which will be reflected in her program of works by Rameau, Ravel, Debussy, Chaminade, Sévérac and Casadesus.


 

January 20 – Vladimir Valjarevic

Vladimir ValjarevicA consummate soloist and chamber musician, Vladimir Valjarevic has appeared in performances across the United States, Europe and Japan, including appearances at Southwest Virginia Festival for the Arts, Manchester Music Festival in Vermont, ProMozart Society in Atlanta, the French and Swiss Embassies and American University in Washington D.C., and on various concert series in New York City, including performances at Bargemusic, Weill, Merkin, and Steinway Halls, United Nations, “Music Under Construction,” and the French and Polish Consulates. He will perform Beethoven’s ‘Moonlight’ Sonata, Chopin’s Four Mazurkas, Op. 28, and works by Rameau, Fauré, Ravel and Zbinden.


 

Margaret MillsJanuary 27 – Margaret Mills,
with the Acadian Chamber Players

Mills has performed throughout the United States and Europe, as well as in China. Since her debut in Carnegie Recital Hall in 1974, Ms. Mills has given solo recitals in Alice Tully Hall and Merkin Concert Hall in New York and at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. In addition to solo piano works by Brahms, Debussy & NYC composer Ursula Mamlok, she will be joined by the Acadian Chamber Players in a performance of Shostakovich’s serene Piano Quintet, Op. 57.
