Millie A. Tourtelot
Director of Christian Education and Discipleship
Originally hired as the interim Director of Christian Education and Youth Ministries, Millie became a permanent staff member in June of 2009 as the Director of Christian Education and Discipleship. The title change reflects a growing emphasis on Adult Christian education and discipleship at MAPC in addition to our children’s and youth educational programs.
Millie, a native New Yorker raised in the Presbyterian tradition, brings diverse church and teaching experiences to MAPC. Although she originally pursued joint Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees in Linguistics from the University of Chicago, her passion for the church and ministry led her to Princeton Theological Seminary, where she graduated with a Master of Divinity degree. At Princeton, Millie was able to indulge in her love of languages and Old Testament studies, but her true calling was equipping herself for the discipleship, teaching and training of lay church leadership. Along the way, Millie has served in both established and newly planted congregations in various denominations in Chicago, Princeton, and New York.
Millie recently married her husband Max, a financial regulator, in the fall of 2009. Together they live on the tenth floor of the Church House with their two cats, Comet and Sophie, keeping vacuum cleaner and lint roller makers in business. A food enthusiast, Millie loves to cook, discover new places to eat, and discuss food politics. She also loves reading, theater, travel, and walking around the city with friends.
