Mary W. Huff
Associate Director of Music
Mary Wannamaker Huff, a native of Greenville, SC, was appointed the Associate Director of Music at Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church in 2006. She assists Director of Music, Andrew Henderson, in all aspects of the music program including directing of the Children’s Choirs and Teen Choir, playing the organ for liturgies, accompanying and conducting the Church Choir and Saint Andrew Chorale, as well as managing our concert series, Music on Madison!
In addition to her work with liturgical music at MAPC, she is the Artistic Director of the New York City Children’s Chorus at Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church, an auditioned children’s choral program of over 140 children from the metropolitan NYC area in eight graded choirs. Recent highlights of the NYCCC season include singing Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, Britten’s Saint Nicolas, and Pergolesi’s Magnificat. The NYCCC’s tour to Washington, DC, included performances at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Georgetown Presbyterian Church, and the Armed Services Retirement Home. Recent NYCCC television appearances include Saturday Night Live with Paul McCartney and the Today Show, as well as the festive unveiling of Bloomingdale’s holiday windows with Josh Groban.
From 2004-2012, she was the Director of Children’s Choirs and High School Choir at St. Ignatius Loyola Church in New York City, conducting and administering one of the nation’s finest Catholic children’s choirs. She also prepared her choirs at St. Ignatius for their Carnegie Hall debut in 2009, singing Mahler’s Symphony no. 3 conducted by George Mathew. In addition, Ms. Huff has coached her students for solo performances in a range of NYC venues from Carnegie Hall and St. Patrick’s Cathedral to the studios of Nickelodeon!
Among her favorite press reviews was New York Magazine’s listing of one of her chorister’s performances of Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms as one of the year’s “Top Ten Classical Events in NYC” (Dec. 7, 2008). Her recent recording, ANGEL, with the St. Ignatius Children’s Choir, is available on MSR Classics.
