Mary W. Huff
Associate Director of Music
Mary Wannamaker Huff, a native of Greenville, SC, was appointed the Associate Director of Music at Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church in 2006. She assists her husband, Andrew Henderson, in many aspects of the music program including directing of the Children’s Choirs and Teen Choir, playing the organ for liturgies, accompanying and conducting the Church Choir and Saint Andrew Chorale.
Since 2004, she has been the Director of Children’s Choirs at St. Ignatius Loyola Church in New York City, where she conducts and administers the four graded choirs for nearly 100 children in grades one through twelve. Her choirs sing for various weekend and festival liturgies in addition to appearing on the church’s renowned concert series, as well as performances at St. Agnes Cathedral, Long Island and at Carnegie Hall in 2009.
Ms. Huff graduated cum laude from Furman University in 1999, and continued her musical studies on a full scholarship at the Yale University Institute of Sacred Music where she earned the Master of Music degree in organ performance in 2001. She continued further post-graduate studies in music education at Westminster Choir College specializing in the training of children’s choirs. Her organ teachers have included Charles Tompkins, Martin Jean and Thomas Murray, and she studied piano with Ruby Morgan.
She has taught music to children of all grade levels (K4-12) in Catholic, independent, and inner-city schools. Mary has also served as secretary on the executive board of the New York City Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. Andrew and Mary have two young boys, Elliot and Christian.
